Several Jan. 1 gatherings have grown into decades-long traditions, drawing revelers who want to wash off the old year and welcome in the new. The Surf City Splash in Huntington Beach is celebrating 20 years since the day a few friends first showed up at the pier, led by local resident Michael Parks, to dip into the water on New Year’s Day.
